This unique DVD combines wartime newsreels, archive film and photographs to tell the fascinating story of a county at war.
It shows the measures Yorkshire took to defend itself, the destruction it suffered at the hands of the Luftwaffe and also the remarkable courage and determination of the people to survive and fight back.
This is the moving story of the ordinary people who fought the war on the home front and a celebration of the spirit of those who endured rationing, air raid, evacuation and tragedy to emerge united and victorious.
Running time 60 mins approx.
Discover how the Dales were formed and how many of their most dramatic features, such as Malham Cove, Aysgarth Falls, Ingleton Waterfalls, White Scar and Ingleborough caves, have been sculpted by nature over hundreds of millions of years.
Interviews with experts help to bring this part of the story to life.
Many has also had an impact. Prehistoric hunters arrived here 11,000 years ago and since then, Celts, Romans, Saxons, Vikings and Normans have all left their mark on the landscape, language and culture of the region.
Man’s more recent influence on the Dales is illustrated by visits to Kilnsey Agricultural Show, the Grassington lead mining area and Wensleydale Dairy Products, home of Wensleydale Cheese.
The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority provides an insight into the management of the National Park today.
