A History of Coventry in 20 Objects

Using objects left behind by our ancestors, this DVD explores different aspects of the city’s past and the lives of the men and women who were part of them.

A Viking war axe takes us back 1000 years to a violent episode in Coventry’s history, a medieval toilet seat recalls the lavatory arrangements of our forbears and a cross made of nails tells the remarkable story of a world-wide movement that grew from Coventry’s war-time destruction.

A stonemasons chisel, a 300 year old clock, a workhouse uniform button and an 1897 Daimler are among the other objects that provide a fascinating new look at Coventry’s past.

Most of the objects have been selected from the collections of the Herbert Museum, Coventry Transport Museum and Coventry Cathedral.
