Looking back at The Argus

£13.50

The first edition of the Argus sold for one halfpenny and was published on 30 March 1880 and a lot has changed since Victorians across Sussex picked up their first copy.

The days when hot metal letters were brought from a furnace to fill a page now seen prehistoric in the super-charged digital age. Some things though, have remained constant throughout the changes brought about by technology. From the outset, the aim of the Argus was to be at the very heart of the region it serves, 135 years later, it is proud to remain the heartbeat of news across Sussex.

Journalism was once described as ‘the first rough draft of history’ and the stories, the triumphs and tragedies, the heroes and villains, the smiles and the tears that have been covered in The Argus almost every day for well over a century, now provide a priceless record of the life of a community.

The new DVD takes a fascinating look back at the stories that have made the headlines in the Argus over the last 135 years.
